I have to admit, I picked up BALLAD, the sequel to LAMENT because I really wanted to see more of Luke, the main male character. You would think I would be disappointed when this book was written from James' point of view. Not so! Once again Maggie Stiefvater's master storytelling draws you into the minds of bagpiper James and Nuala, his faerie follower. Their chemisty is white hot and mesmerizing. She is the perfect match for James in every way. Deidre's story is artfully interwoven through text messages at the beginning of each chapter. I devoured this sequel in one day and was left wanting more. Here's to hoping Ms. Steifvater writes a trilogy, because the first two books in the Faerie Queen's Deception series were amazing.
